TV display technology continues to evolve. Flat panels range in size from very small to 100”. Most models now are 4K or UHD (Ultra High-Definition) with picture detail 4 times greater than HDTV’s. LED (Light Emitting Diode) back-lit LCD’s are the most popular technology today. OLED (Organ Light Emitting Diode) is an emerging technology with better viewing angles and contrast. LED is better suited for brighter environments. There are many factors that affect picture quality from sources to video processing. Some sets are now curved for better viewing angles. Better brands such as Sony and Samsung typically can produce the best picture quality.

For a true Home Cinema experience, we recommend a video projector and screen. Prices have come down and picture quality has gone up. Projectors now offer a wide variety of features and performance. 4K, laser light engines and lens shift are some popular items. Some models coupled with a proper screen can be viewed in a fairly bright room now.

Screens are an important part of the system design. A screen should be selected based on the projector lens and brightness capability, room size and brightness, as well as other things like LED backlighting or masking to reduce black bars. Screens can also be rear projection. The projector is placed behind the screen for a cleaner look.
